The short answer

For a walk-in interview for a data or MIS role, carry printed resumes, originals and photocopies of your education and ID documents, passport photos, and a pen, arrive early, and expect a long day of waiting interspersed with a short screening, possibly a test, and one or two interviews. Prepare a 60-second introduction and a two-minute walkthrough of your best project, and leave knowing exactly what happens next.

Before you go, confirm the walk-in is genuine: the listing should be on the company's own careers page or an official account, and no one should ask for money. The checks are in how to check an off-campus drive is genuine.

The folder to carry

Pack a single folder the night before. Put documents in the order you will be asked for them.

Keep originals in a separate sleeve; never hand them over to be kept. Photocopies are for submitting.

A timed plan for the day

Walk-ins often list a window such as 10 am to 1 pm. Arriving early matters because candidates are usually seen in order.

07:30 Leave home with folder, water, snack, phone charged, some cash
09:15 Arrive at venue; locate the room; register at the desk
09:30 Fill the application form; write your phone and email exactly as on resume
10:00 Wait. Revise your introduction and project walkthrough from notes
10:30 Screening: HR checks eligibility, notice period, location preference
11:30 Test, if any: aptitude, Excel or SQL on paper or a system
13:00 Technical interview
14:30 HR or manager round, if shortlisted the same day
15:30 Before leaving: ask about next steps and who to contact

Plan for the whole day even if the listing says three hours.

Your 60-second introduction

Walk-in interviews move fast, and the first minute sets the tone. A fictional example:

text
I am Farhan, a B.Com graduate from 2025. For the last eight months I have
worked as an MIS executive at a logistics company in Noida, where I prepare the
daily dispatch report in Excel and recently moved it to a Power BI dashboard
that the operations head now uses each morning. I am applying for the data
analyst role because I want to work more with SQL and on analysis rather than
report preparation. I have a portfolio project on delivery delays that I can
show you.

Three parts: who you are, what you do now with one concrete example, and why this role.

The two-minute project walkthrough

Prepare one project in this order: the question, the data, what you did, what you found, what you would do next. Rehearse it aloud until it takes two minutes. Expect follow-up questions on any number you mention; see resume project bullets and follow-up questions.

At the venue

  • Be polite to everyone. Reception and coordinators are sometimes asked for their impressions.
  • Keep your phone on silent, but charged; you may be called back after a break.
  • Note names of the people who interview you, in your notebook.
  • If you are asked to wait beyond the listed time, ask the desk politely whether your round is still scheduled.

Before you leave

Ask one question at the desk or of your last interviewer:

text
Thank you for your time today. Could you tell me what the next step is, and
roughly when I should expect to hear?

If the answer is "we will call you", ask for an email address you can follow up on. That evening, log the company, date, round reached, names and next step in your job application tracker.

If you are preparing for analyst walk-ins and want to build the Excel, SQL and dashboard skills that interviewers test, the Data Analyst programme runs for 3–4 months, live online with optional in-person labs at our Noida centre.
