To vet a walk-in drive in Noida or Gurugram, confirm three things before you travel: that the company is registered and actually advertising this drive on its own channels, that the venue address matches a real office of that company, and that nobody is asking you for money at any stage. A drive that fails any one of these deserves a phone call before you spend a morning on the road.
Why walk-ins deserve extra checking in NCR
Walk-in drives are common for high-volume roles such as process associates, MIS executives, data entry and junior analysts, and many are genuine. But they share features with scams: the message arrives on WhatsApp or a group, the venue is an IT park you have never visited, and the decision is made on the spot. Noida's sector-based addresses and Gurugram's tower names make it easy to print an address that sounds right and is not.
The three-part check
1. The company
- Search the exact legal name on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs portal's company master data. A registered company has a CIN and a registered office. A name you cannot find at all is a warning; a name that is registered but dormant or struck off is a stronger one.
- Find the same drive on the company's own careers page or verified social account. If the only place it exists is a forwarded image, treat it as unconfirmed.
- Note whether the ad names the employer at all. "Leading MNC in Noida" with no name is common with consultancies; ask which client you would be working for.
2. The venue
- Put the address into a map and look at what is actually there. Is it an office tower, a residential flat, a shop front?
- For an IT park or special economic zone, visitors are often registered at a gate or reception. Ask the recruiter whose name you should give at the gate. A genuine drive will have one. Our interview-day checklist for IT parks and SEZs covers the gate process.
- A company that says it is in one tower and holds the drive in a hotel conference room may be fine (large drives do this), but it should say so on its own channels.
3. The recruiter
- Is the email from the company's domain, or a free email account? A consultant may legitimately use their own agency domain; ask for the agency's name and check it too.
- Does the person know the role? Ask what tools the team uses and what the first month looks like. Scammers answer in generalities.
Red flags and what they usually mean
| What you see | What it often means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A fee for registration, "document verification" or a training kit | Almost always a scam | Do not pay; verify independently |
| An offer letter before any interview | Fake offer, often followed by a fee request | Ignore and report |
| Pressure: "only 5 seats, come today" | Creating urgency to stop you checking | Slow down; call the company |
| Salary far above the role, no experience needed | Bait | Ask for the band in writing and the job description |
| Venue is a residential address | Possibly an unregistered agency | Ask for the office address and visit only if verified |
| Asked to share Aadhaar, PAN and bank details before interview | Identity or financial fraud risk | Share nothing until you have an offer from a verified employer |
| Recruiter refuses to name the client | Could be normal confidentiality or a cover | Ask for the job description at least; decide from that |
A two-minute phone script
Call a number you found yourself on the company's official site, not the number in the message.
"Hello, I received a message about a walk-in drive for a junior data analyst role on Saturday at your Sector 62 office. Could you confirm the drive is being held by your HR team, the timing, and what I should bring?"
Then note the answers. If they have never heard of the drive, you have saved your morning. If they confirm, ask one more question: "Is there any fee or payment at any stage?" The answer should be an immediate no.
What to carry if it checks out
- Several printed copies of your resume, and a PDF on your phone.
- A government photo ID. Carry the original to show, but give a copy only after you know who is collecting it and why.
- Your laptop only if the invite asks for it, since gate security at some parks records laptops in and out.
- A short portfolio link, such as a dashboard or a SQL project you can explain in two minutes. Walk-ins for analyst roles often include a quick Excel or SQL test.
If you have already paid or shared details
- 1Stop further payments and keep every message and receipt.
- 2Call the national cyber crime helpline, 1930, and file a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in. Speed matters for money transfers.
- 3Inform your bank if you shared card or account details.
- 4If you gave identity documents, keep a record of what was shared and with whom.
Doing better than a walk-in
Walk-ins reward the candidates who arrive with something to show. If your resume lists Excel and SQL but you cannot demonstrate either in ten minutes, that is the gap to close first. Structured practice helps here: the Data Analyst programme spends its 3–4 months on hands-on Excel, SQL and dashboard projects, in live online classes, with optional lab days in Noida. Start with the free skill check to see which skills an analyst job description expects that your resume does not yet show.

Frequently asked questions
Is it normal to pay a registration fee for a walk-in interview?
No. A genuine employer does not charge candidates to attend an interview, and a request for money before an offer is the most common sign of a job scam. If anyone asks you to pay for registration, training, a uniform or a laptop before joining, stop and verify independently.
How can I check whether a company in a walk-in advertisement is real?
Look up the company name on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs site to confirm it is registered, then find the drive on the company's own careers page or official social account. Call a number you found yourself, not the one in the forwarded message, and ask HR to confirm the date, venue and role.
