A Naukri profile for a data analyst works when the resume headline names the target role and your provable tools, the key skills list contains only terms you can be tested on, and the profile summary and projects repeat those same terms with evidence. Recruiters search the database with keywords and filters, so every field is either a search hook or a credibility check.
Section labels on Naukri change from time to time, so treat the names below as they appeared when this was written and match them to what your profile page shows. The example person is fictional: Riya, a B.Com graduate in Ghaziabad who has finished SQL, Excel and Power BI training and built two projects on synthetic data.
Resume headline: one line a recruiter reads in the results list
The resume headline shows in search results next to your name, often before anyone opens the resume. It needs to answer "which role, which tools, what proof" in one line.
| Version | Headline | Problem |
|---|---|---|
| Weak | Hardworking and passionate fresher seeking a challenging opportunity | No role, no tool, no searchable term |
| Better | Data Analyst Fresher, SQL, Excel, Power BI | Searchable, but identical to thousands of others |
| Use this | Data Analyst, SQL, Excel, Power BI, built a returns-analysis dashboard on 50,000 synthetic orders | Role, tools and one checkable piece of work |
If you have work experience outside data, lead with the target role and put the domain after it: "Data Analyst, SQL and Power BI, 3 years in retail store operations". The domain is a genuine advantage for retail or supply-chain analyst openings.
Key skills: build the list from ten job descriptions
Do not type skills from memory. Open ten current analyst postings you would apply to, copy their required-skills lines into a sheet, and count how often each term appears. Then keep only the terms you can demonstrate.
Riya's shortlist after that exercise:
- SQL
- MySQL (she practised on it; the postings named it)
- Advanced Excel
- Pivot Tables
- Power BI
- DAX
- Data Cleaning
- Data Visualization
- Exploratory Data Analysis
- Python (basic pandas only, so she also writes "pandas" in the IT skills section with a lower proficiency)
- Statistics
She left out Tableau, Machine Learning and Big Data even though some postings mentioned them. A recruiter who finds her through "Machine Learning" will ask about it on the first call.
Enter skills in the forms employers use. "Power BI" and "PowerBI" can be treated differently by search, and "MS Excel" and "Advanced Excel" are both common; if the postings you want use both, include both.
Profile summary: three sentences that repeat the keywords with evidence
The summary is where the headline's claims get their proof. Keep it short and concrete.
Data analyst trained in SQL, Excel and Power BI, with two end-to-end projects on
synthetic retail data. Wrote SQL (joins, CTEs, window functions) to calculate return
rates by category and pincode, and built a Power BI report with a documented DAX
measure for net revenue. Background in commerce and GST invoicing, so I read
financial data comfortably. Available to join immediately; open to Noida, Delhi and
Gurugram.Notice what it avoids: no "results-driven", no claim of business impact from synthetic data, and a clear statement that the projects are synthetic.
Employment and education: keep them consistent with your resume
Recruiters compare the Naukri profile with the attached resume. Dates, designations and company names must match exactly, including month and year. If you had a six-month gap, the dates show it in both places; explain it in an interview rather than stretching a tenure. For freshers, the education section should include the year of passing and the marks format your university issues (percentage or CGPA), because some employers filter on it.
Projects: one entry per project, written like a mini case
Naukri has a projects section with a title, dates, and a description. Use it, because it lets you add keyword-rich detail that would crowd a one-page resume.
Title: Returns analysis for a synthetic e-commerce store
Client: Self-directed project (synthetic data)
Duration: Jul 2026 - Aug 2026
Details: Generated 50,000 synthetic orders with a Python script. Loaded them into
MySQL and wrote queries for return rate by category, pincode and payment mode,
using CTEs and a window function for month-on-month change. Built a two-page Power
BI report with a measure for net revenue after returns. Repository and README with
the questions answered: github.com/<your-username>/returns-analysis"Client: Self-directed" is honest and prevents an awkward first call.
Career profile: the filters that decide whether you appear at all
The desired role, job type, preferred locations and expected salary fields act as filters. Recruiters who search "Noida" will not see you if you listed only Bengaluru. Choose locations you would actually commute to or relocate for. For expected salary, enter a figure you have thought about using the offer arithmetic in our guide to what to confirm before accepting an offer; an unrealistic figure can filter you out silently.
Notice period is another filter. "Immediate joiner" or "15 days or less" is common in searches for fresher and junior roles. Enter the truth; a mismatch discovered at offer stage ends the process.
A weekly maintenance routine
Search ranking on job portals is generally believed to favour recently updated profiles, but the portal does not publish how its ranking works, so do not rely on tricks. A useful habit is simpler: once a week, update one real thing, such as a new project, a revised summary line or a new skill you can now demonstrate. Then record in your application tracker whether recruiter calls changed.
Before you finalise, run your resume through the free skill check against a target role to see which listed skills your resume actually evidences. Our Data Analyst programme builds the SQL, Excel and Power BI project work these sections ask you to show.
Frequently asked questions
What should I write in the Naukri resume headline as a data analyst fresher?
Name the role you want, the three tools you can actually demonstrate, and one piece of evidence such as a project domain. For example, "Data Analyst | SQL, Excel, Power BI | Sales and returns analysis project on 50,000 synthetic orders". Avoid adjectives like "hardworking" that nobody searches for.
How many key skills should I add on Naukri?
Add the skills you would be comfortable being tested on in a first interview, usually eight to fifteen for an analyst. Every skill you list is a search term that can bring your profile into a recruiter's results, so a skill you cannot defend brings you calls you will fail.
