A data analyst fresher resume should fit on one page and lead with a two-line summary, then two or three projects written like work experience (question, method, tools, result, link), then skills grouped by tool, then education. Everything on it should be something you can explain in detail in an interview.
Below is a complete example for a fictional graduate, followed by notes on each section. The projects use synthetic data and say so.

SUMMARY
Data analyst fresher skilled in SQL, Excel and Power BI. Built an end-to-end
returns analysis on 50,000 synthetic e-commerce orders, from data generation to a
two-page Power BI report with written recommendations.
PROJECTS
Returns Analysis for a Synthetic E-commerce Store Jul 2026 - Aug 2026
- Generated 50,000 synthetic orders with a documented Python script and loaded
them into MySQL.
- Wrote SQL with CTEs and window functions to compute return rate by category,
pincode and payment mode, and month-on-month change.
- Built a Power BI report with DAX measures for net revenue after returns; wrote a
one-page note with three recommendations and their limitations.

Monthly Sales MIS Rebuild (Excel) May 2026 - Jun 2026
- Rebuilt a synthetic 12-month sales workbook using Power Query to combine
monthly files, replacing manual copy-paste.
- Used XLOOKUP, pivot tables and conditional formatting to produce a regional
summary; documented each step so another person could refresh it.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Data Entry Intern, [Local distributor], Noida Jan 2026 - Mar 2026
- Entered and checked about 150 invoices a day in the billing system; flagged
duplicate invoice numbers to the accounts team using a COUNTIF check.

SQL: MySQL, joins, CTEs, window functions, GROUP BY
Excel: pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, conditional formatting
Power BI: data modelling (star schema), DAX measures, report design
Python: pandas basics for cleaning and data generation
Other: descriptive statistics, data cleaning, written reporting
EDUCATION
B.Com (Hons), [University], 2025 - 68%
Class XII (CBSE), 2022 - 82%Section by section: why it is written this way
Header
City, not full address; a working phone; a professional email; LinkedIn and GitHub as plain URLs so they survive a copy-paste. No photo, date of birth, marital status or father's name, which are not needed for an analyst application. Some employers' own forms may ask for personal details later; give them there.
Summary
Two lines. It names the target role, three tools and the strongest project. It says "synthetic" because the project data is synthetic, and hiding that only creates an awkward moment later.
Projects before work experience
For a fresher, projects carry the evidence. The data-entry internship is real and useful, but it shows less analyst skill than the projects, so it goes second. Once you have an analyst job, reverse the order.
Each project bullet follows the pattern action verb, what, how, with what tool. Look at the SQL bullet: "Wrote SQL with CTEs and window functions to compute return rate by category, pincode and payment mode". An interviewer can ask about any of those words and Anjali has a real answer.
The repository link turns a claim into something checkable. Before you add it, make sure the README explains the question, the data source, how to run it and the findings.
Work experience
"About 150 invoices a day" is a realistic, verifiable scale. The COUNTIF duplicate check is small, but it shows data instinct in an ordinary job. Do not inflate an internship into "Data Analyst Intern" if your certificate says "Data Entry Intern"; background checks compare the two.
Skills grouped by tool
Grouping shows depth. "SQL" alone says little; "SQL: joins, CTEs, window functions" tells the interviewer what to ask. Leave out anything you would not want to be tested on today. There are no skill ratings, stars or bars: they are meaningless to a reader and can break parsing.
Education
Year and marks in the format your university issues. Some employers filter on marks; putting them in avoids a follow-up email. If your marks are low, still include them if a form will ask anyway. Class X can be dropped once you have Class XII and a degree, unless an employer asks for it.
What is deliberately missing
| Left out | Reason |
|---|---|
| Career objective | Replaced by a specific summary |
| Hobbies | Unhelpful unless directly relevant |
| Declaration and signature | Not expected on a resume sent by email or portal |
| Tools she has only watched videos about | They would be asked about |
| Certificates for short video courses | Projects prove more; list at most one or two substantial ones |

Frequently asked questions
What should a data analyst fresher put on a resume with no experience?
Put two or three projects with the questions they answered, the tools used and a link to the work, followed by education and any internship or part-time work that involved data. Projects take the place of experience, so they need the detail an experience section would have.
Should a fresher include a career objective?
Replace the generic objective with a two-line summary that names the target role, your main tools and your strongest project. An objective that says you want a challenging role tells the reader nothing.
