The short answer

Before you pay for a data course, ask twelve specific questions about money, time and people, and judge each answer by whether it is checkable. A good answer names a person, a number or a document you can read today. An evasive answer is a feeling ("don't worry", "everyone manages") or a promise that only exists on a phone call.

Why these questions are about logistics, not syllabus

Most prospective learners compare syllabus lists, and most syllabus lists look alike: Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, statistics, a capstone. The things that actually decide whether you finish are rarely on the brochure: who is in the room, what happens the week your office has a release, and what you can get back if your circumstances change. Those are the questions below.

Take this list into the counselling call. Write the answer next to each question while you are on the call, then ask for the written version afterwards.

The question bank

#QuestionA straight answer sounds likeAn evasive answer sounds like
1Who teaches each module, and what is their current role?"Module 1–3 is taught by X, who works as Y; here is their LinkedIn.""Our faculty are all industry experts."
2How many hours are taught live, and how many are self-paced?"About N live hours over M weeks; the rest is assignments.""It's very interactive."
3What is the batch size, and does it ever get merged with another batch?"Capped at N. If we merge, we tell you in writing first.""Small batches, personal attention."
4If I miss a class, what exactly do I get?"The recording within a stated time, plus the notebook and a doubt slot.""You can always catch up."
5How long do I keep access to recordings after the course ends?A specific period, or "for as long as the portal runs", in the terms."Lifetime access" with no document behind it.
6Can I move to a later batch if my job gets heavy? How many times?"Once, on request, within the first N weeks.""We're flexible."
7What does the fee include, and is anything charged later?"It covers X, Y, Z. Certification exams by third parties are extra.""It's all-inclusive" without a list.
8Is the fee inclusive of GST?A yes or no, and the invoice shows the breakup."We'll sort out the paperwork later."
9What is the refund policy, and where is it written?"Here is the link to our terms; the refund section is clause N.""We've never had anyone ask for a refund."
10What does placement support actually consist of?Named activities: resume review, mock interviews, referrals, with eligibility criteria."100% placement" or salary figures quoted on the call.
11How are assignments reviewed, and by whom?"A mentor comments within N days; you get written feedback.""There's an automated checker." (only)
12Can I sit in on one live class or see one recorded session first?"Yes, here's a demo session" or a trial pass."Our classes are exclusive to enrolled students."

Reading the pattern, not one answer

One vague answer is not disqualifying; counsellors do not know everything. Two patterns matter more:

  • Refusal to write it down. If question 9 or 10 cannot be answered with a link or document before payment, treat every verbal promise as unenforceable.
  • Numbers that only go up. If every question is answered with a bigger claim ("more than 500 hiring partners", "95% placement") and none with a limit ("we can't do that", "that costs extra"), you are hearing marketing, not terms.

Score the call in five minutes

After the call, score each of the twelve questions:

  • 2 — answered with a name, number or document you can verify.
  • 1 — answered clearly but only verbally.
  • 0 — evasive, or "I'll check" with no follow-up within two working days.

Three follow-up emails worth sending

A short email after the call turns verbal answers into a record. Keep it factual:

text
Subject: Confirming what we discussed on today's call

Hi <name>,
Thanks for the call today. To make sure I understood correctly:
1. Live teaching is about <N> hours over <M> weeks.
2. If I miss a class, the recording is available within <time>.
3. The refund and batch-transfer terms are at <link>.
Could you confirm, or correct anything I got wrong?

If the reply corrects you, that is good: you now have the real answer. If there is no reply, that is also information.

What to ask for on paper before you pay

  • The current terms and conditions page or PDF, dated.
  • The refund clause and any job-guarantee or placement clause (read them with the method in how to read a job-guarantee or refund clause).
  • The syllabus with hours per module.
  • The name of the mentor or trainer for your batch, if already assigned.

Where this fits with the rest of your decision

These questions tell you whether an institute is honest about logistics. They do not tell you whether the syllabus matches the jobs you want; for that, test the syllabus against ten job descriptions. And they do not tell you whether you personally are ready for the pace, which is a question about your week, not theirs.

If you are considering our Data Analyst programme, put all twelve questions to our counsellors too, including the fee question; we would rather you ask it on the call than discover the answer on an invoice.

Frequently asked questions

What should I ask a data analytics institute before paying the fee?

Ask who teaches each module, how many hours are live, what happens if you miss classes, how long you keep access to recordings, and exactly what the refund and batch-transfer terms say. Ask for the answers in writing, ideally as a link to published terms.

Is it a red flag if a counsellor will not share the terms before payment?

Yes. Terms that only arrive after you pay cannot inform your decision. A reasonable institute can send the current terms page or document before you commit any money.
