The short answer

If you are a student in Delhi NCR looking for a data internship, begin with your college's placement cell and the two free government portals: the AICTE Internship Portal and the PM Internship Scheme portal. Then screen every listing, whatever its source, against one rule: a genuine internship never asks you to pay to join. Most of your effort should go into the screening, because the region's many offices in Noida, Gurugram, Okhla and central Delhi also attract a steady supply of fake listings.

Three official doors, and who each one is for

PortalRun byWho can use itWhat to check before applying
AICTE Internship PortalAICTE, Ministry of EducationStudents of AICTE-approved institutions; the portal also lists UGC, IGNOU and other studentsWhether your college accepts the internship for credit; credits can be recorded on the Academic Bank of Credits
PM Internship SchemeMinistry of Corporate AffairsEligibility is set by the scheme's current guidelinesThe current eligibility, stipend and duration terms on the portal; news reports have given conflicting figures
National Apprenticeship Training SchemeMinistry of Education, with regional Boards of Apprenticeship TrainingGraduates and diploma holders in eligible streams, as defined on the portalWhether your degree and year of passing fall within the scheme

As of September 2026 these are the official addresses. Bookmark them directly rather than reaching them through search ads, since look-alike sites exist.

The AICTE portal itself warns students that paying an agent for an internship is a scam. That warning applies equally to private job boards and WhatsApp groups.

Screening a listing in five minutes

Copy this into a notes file and fill it in for each listing before you apply:

text
Listing: ________________________________
Company legal name: ________________ (from website footer or offer)
MCA status: active / struck off / not found
Office location: ________________ (sector, building, city)
Work described: specific task? (e.g. "clean weekly sales data in Excel,
build a Power BI refresh") yes / no
Supervisor named: yes / no
Stipend stated: yes / no / "performance-based"
Any payment asked: none / registration / training / kit / deposit
Contact channel: company email domain / Gmail / WhatsApp only
Decision: apply / ask questions / skip

A listing that gets "no" on the work description and "WhatsApp only" on contact is not worth your time, even if nothing else looks wrong.

Payment demands that end the conversation

Walk away if any of these appear, however professional the rest looks:

  • A "registration fee" or "confirmation fee" to hold your internship seat.
  • A requirement to buy a training course before the internship "starts".
  • A refundable "security deposit" for a laptop or ID card.
  • A certificate fee charged at the end, especially when the work was unpaid.
  • A payment request by UPI to a personal name rather than a company account.

If you have already paid and suspect fraud, report it on the national cybercrime helpline, 1930, or at cybercrime.gov.in. Report quickly, as the chance of stopping a transfer drops within hours.

Questions that sort real analytics internships from data-entry jobs

Many listings say "data analyst intern" but describe copying figures between spreadsheets. That can still be useful experience, but you should know what you are accepting. In a first call, ask:

  1. 1What is the data source, and how often does it update?
  2. 2Which tool will I use most: Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI or something else?
  3. 3Who reviews my work, and how often?
  4. 4Can you show me an example output a previous intern produced, with sensitive data removed?
  5. 5Will I be able to describe my project on my resume, and are there confidentiality limits?
  6. 6Is the role on-site, hybrid or remote, and which days?

A supervisor who can answer the first three clearly usually has real work for you. Vague answers to question 4 are common and not disqualifying. Being unable to answer question 3 is a bigger warning sign.

Timing the search around the Delhi academic calendar

Many NCR colleges run an odd semester from around July and an even semester from around January, with a summer break after it, but your own college calendar is the authority. Working back from it:

  • Eight to ten weeks before the break: build one small portfolio project using public data, so you have something to show. Our Delhi bus open-data project and AQI calculation project are both sized for this.
  • Six weeks before: apply through the portals and your placement cell. Check your resume against a data analyst job description with the free skill check.
  • Two weeks before: confirm the location, hours and supervisor in writing, and plan your commute. A Noida office reached from west Delhi can take a large share of a day on the Blue Line.
  • During the internship: keep a weekly log of what you built and the question it answered. This becomes your resume bullet.

If nothing comes through

A missed internship cycle is a setback, but not the end of the story. A well-documented independent project, with a clean notebook, a short written summary of what you found and honest notes on its limits, gives an interviewer much of the same evidence. For structured practice with a mentor reviewing your notebooks, look at the Data Analyst programme: 3–4 months of project work, taught live online.
